Cedeno sidelined with injured knee
content: UpdatedAug 1, 2011 12:23 AM ETPHILADELPHIA -- A knee injury has kept
Pirates shortstop
Official Joe DiMaggio Jersey Ronny Cedeno out
of the lineup the past two days.
Cedeno was hurt Thursday when he collided with outfielder Xavier
Paul in the second inning of the game against the Atlanta Braves.
Cedeno remained in the game and made a throwing error in the sixth
inning, which allowed a run to score.
"It's just bruised," Cedeno said Saturday.
Official Derek Jeter Jersey "But it is tough to
move side to side."
The
Pirates on Friday recalled infielder
Pedro Ciriaco from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace reliever Chris
Leroux, who went on the 15-day
Official Don Mattingly Jersey disabled list with a sore calf.
Ciriaco started at shortstop last night and batted leadoff.
Morton slumping
Charlie
Official Joba Chamberlain Jersey Morton has hit a
Official Alex Rodriguez Jersey rough patch, with the latest
installment being his four-inning, eight-run outing Friday against
Philadelphia. Over his past eight starts, Morton is 3-5 with a 7.18
ERA -- a radical change from his strong first-half performance.
"You really have to take a good look at what's going on because
the contrast is so great," Morton said. "I made a
Official Curtis Granderson Jersey couple decent
starts in July, but I just wasn't the same as before. I know it's
in there,
Official C.C. Sabathia Jersey it's just trying to figure out how to
Official Brett Gardner Jersey get it back."
Morton insisted he does not want to skip another start, as he
did before the All-Star break. Manager Clint Hurdle hasn't ruled
out that option, though he said Morton needs to simplify his
approach.
"Part of this is going to be about Charlie thinking with his own
head and slowing things down," Hurdle said. "He's looked at the
video. (Pitching coach) Ray (Searage) has had the conversation with
him. We've done all the things we needed to do today from a
coaching standpoint to try to head him back in the right
direction."
Injury update
Coach Mark Strittmatter will spend at least the next couple of
days with Indianapolis, specifically observing catcher Ryan Doumit
(fractured ankle). Hurdle spoke by phone with Doumit yesterday. "He
assured me that he's ready to go," Hurdle said with a chuckle.
"Everybody we've gotten back (from the DL) has struggled a little
bit. I shared that with him." ... Outfielder Alex Presley (nerve
injury) said his left thumb has improved. "(The discomfort) is
still there," Presley said. "It depends what I do. It's not as
easily irritated as it was before."Terms & Conditions |Privacy |Copyright |? 2009 LexisNexis, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
